Massage Amsterdam on a long weekend: the first evening, the middle one or the last?
Written for visitorsA long weekend in Amsterdam usually means three nights: one after the journey, one after a full day of sights, and one before the trip home. Choosing which of them to give to a massage in Amsterdam makes more difference than visitors expect.
Short trips tend to follow the same rhythm. You arrive on Thursday or Friday, see the city for one or two full days, and leave on Sunday or Monday. Each evening of that stay has its own character, and each suits a booking in a different way. Choosing in advance lets you plan the days around it; choosing on the day lets you see how tired you are. Both work, and the rules for each are set out below.
The first evening
The arrival evening is the hardest one to plan. Trains and flights run late, check-in takes longer than expected, and the first walk around the neighbourhood tends to stretch on. If you book this evening, give yourself a wide margin and ask for a late hour; waiting in the room is better than rushing. For travellers who arrive stiff from a long journey, it can be a calm way to begin the trip.
The middle evening, after the full day
The middle evening follows the full day of sightseeing, the one with the museums, the canal ring and the market all in it. It is the evening the legs ask for a massage in Amsterdam without any doubt, and there is still a day ahead to enjoy feeling rested. Booking it on the day itself, once you know how the day went, is straightforward. The guide to a sightseer's day walks through that day hour by hour.
The last evening
The last evening has its own logic: the bags are half packed, the sights are done, and nothing remains but the journey. Some visitors choose a longer session for this one. Check the time of your train or flight first and leave enough sleep; the journal post on the last night before the flight describes how it tends to go.
Booking a massage in Amsterdam before you travel
If you would rather settle it before leaving home, you can. A booking made more than twenty-four hours ahead carries a deposit of half the fee, as does any first booking with the house. One move is free if you ask more than twenty-four hours before the booked time, to a date within fourteen days, and the deposit moves with it; the free move entry has the details. If the weekend falls on a peak date, such as King's Day, every booking carries the deposit anyway.
